Interested in learning about film scoring? Want to meet composers & filmmakers? Join us for our monthly Film Music Meetup, hosted by Film Score Fest and SPNN.

Our goal is to pull back the curtain on how film music is made. We watch films with scores by local creators and learn from their techniques. We also offer music feedback opportunities, Q&A, and networking.

This event is aimed at music makers and filmmakers, but everyone is welcome to attend and be inspired, even if you don’t know the difference between a violin and viola.

Join Us at the Next Meetup!

This month, we’ll be celebrating the successes from Film Score Fest by diving into the scores of 3 composers who participated in the fest.

What People Are Saying

Bongjun Kim, composer:

“I think the Film Music Meetup is a great opportunity for both beginner and experienced local composers and filmmakers to meet and connect. The environment is very open and inclusive, making it a welcoming space for everyone. It’s rare to find a meetup specifically focused on film music, and I feel fortunate to have this unique event in my neighborhood.

Through this meetup, I got to know local film composers and filmmakers, and we were able to share our artistic experiences. Most importantly, I discovered Film Score Fest through the group and participated in it as a composer. It was an unforgettable experience to see a live orchestra perform my original composition. Opportunities like this are extremely rare, especially for an amateur film composer like me.”

Josie Just, composer:

“I have very much enjoyed the film music meetups over the last couple of years. They have provided a means for me to collaborate with like minded composers and filmmakers. It has also been very inspiring to see a breakdown of other film composers/filmmakers’ projects in such a close knit setting where it feels comfortable to ask questions and to have an open discussion about their process.”

Andres A. Parra, filmmaker:

“As a filmmaker, being able to see what musicians and other artists are working on, provides an incredible opportunity to experience what new, different, and exciting innovative pieces and techniques are available to be explored in our varied projects.”

Nick Rudnik, composer:

“The meetups have allowed me to become part of the local community of composers and filmmakers which has pushed me in new directions as a composer myself. We regularly share ideas and try new things as a group that we wouldn’t have done on our own. My composition skills have improved greatly by exploring new ideas I find in the meetups as well as having a new valuable source of feedback on my own work.”

Nik Stalhammar, composer:

“The Film Music Meetups have honestly been really inspiring…As someone working with a limited budget and not always able to hire live musicians, [the] practical advice is incredibly valuable. These meetups have been a great way to not only connect with other composers but also pick up real, applicable tools that help me grow!”
